Walking/Riding Trails: Of the 29 acres purchased in 2009, roughly nine acres have been developed for the CHAPS program. The remaining 20 acres are currently undeveloped. This portion of the property gently slopes down to the Salado Creek. The vision has been to build a hiking and equestrian trail to engage children in therapeutic outdoor programs and activities.
In October of 2016, Partners for Youth was awarded a generous grant in the amount of $100,000 from Impact San Antonio. This grant will be used to construct a 1.25 mile long hiking and equestrian trail.
There is peace and healing power in nature. By constructing trails we expand the CHAPS programs to include trail rides but also offer classes and programs to children who aren’t involved in CHAPS. These classes and programs would provide children the opportunity to hike, learn about the benefits of spending time outdoors and staying active and take classes on conservation, entomology and botany.
